Righthander Luis Severino allowed just one run over seven innings and shortstop Didi Gregorius homered to lift the New York Yankees to a 4-1 win over the Boston Red Sox in a matinee Tuesday that temporarily tied the teams atop the AL East.

With the win, New York pulled even with the Boston Red Sox atop the AL East at 19-11.

Gregorius continued his hot streak against the Red Sox after hitting three homers in an April 15 game in Boston. He hit his fifth homer this season against the Red Sox. Luis Severino allowed just one run in seven innings, allowed just one walk and got some help from two double plays in striking out seven to help the Yankees improve to 15-8 in May. Aaron Hicks also homered for New York.

Boston dropped their second in a row and sit at 21-9. Chris Sale gave up three runs on five hits in 5.2 innings but did strike out nine.
