RICK SANTER: I just want to thank you very much for agreeing to this conversation, Senator Rubio, and thank you for your service. And I’ll tell you something that you probably already know, that you’ve been called a lot of things and that you will be called many more. But let me thank you for being a good friend.
I think in this room, and I may have seen your face, we have a pretty good idea of who you are and what you mean to the Republican Party and what you represent as a United States Senator from Florida. And you are one of the very few people who has been willing to stand with us against President Obama on a lot of issues and a lot of our party’s values. That’s a pretty strong endorsement of what we believe in, and I’m very proud of the work you’ve been doing across this country.
I just want to thank you for being willing to listen to the other side and come with us at this time.
Marco Rubio is a very thoughtful person, and I think he’s been willing to listen to others and come out with a common sense approach in many of the issues that we are dealing with in this country. He is a senator. He’s been a very thoughtful senator, and I think he’s a much better senator than the one who was on the other side, but he can understand the situation we are in today.
He is one of the very few people of whom I am afraid to speak openly in public on an issue, and I just want to thank you again for giving us the opportunity to have a dialogue.
