Letters to the Editor: Recording shows need for special election to fill Mark Ridley-Thomas’ seat
It is my opinion (based on information in my personal knowledge) that the current General Assembly session cannot possibly happen as scheduled before June 10, 2020.
This election should, therefore, be postponed until after the Legislature is no longer in session.
This is why I am supporting a special election to fill Mark Ridley-Thomas’ seat for the remainder of the 2020 session.
I urge you to take a position on this issue.

Ridley-Thomas was elected, along with two other members of the General Assembly, with less than 25 percent of the vote.
Two other members of the General Assembly were elected with a larger percentage of the vote.
This year’s special election should be held in 2019.

Let’s all support Ridley-Thomas and do it quickly
In recent weeks, I have received requests from local residents, legislators and state senators whose districts have been affected by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
All of us, I hope, will continue to support our health and well-being during this difficult time.
But, more importantly, I urge all of you to support our elected officials. By doing so, we will create the conditions necessary to ensure that the state government meets the needs of its people and businesses.
In my view, everyone should support their elected officials.
We all need them right now, and we all need them as soon as the Legislature returns in two months.
I hope that you will work together to support the officials for whom you vote, and that you will support Ridley-Thomas for the remainder of the second half of the 2020 session.

I don’t normally put much stock in the views of local elected officials, but I agree with what Ms Bragg has to say.
I also appreciate that Ridley-Thomas was elected by less than 25 percent of the vote. That is quite different from other districts in the General Assembly.
