Coldplay and Korean band BTS on Wednesday (January 16) announced a collaboration that has the potential to be the greatest track of 2018: the Korean pop group performed during Coldplay’s show at the Sonisphere Festival in Germany.
“Our video shoot was a monster,” BTS said in a video (below) released on their Twitter account after the performance.
The release of the short video marked the first time the K-pop stars were photographed and commented on the collaboration with the British band. Coldplay agreed to produce an exclusive song for the duo — one that both members hoped would go beyond their respective fan bases.
Coldplay and BTS (technically acronyms in Korea) had a memorable week in which they also teamed up to perform at the iHeartRadio Awards. Coldplay won the award for Global Icon while BTS earned Artist of the Year and Best Music Video for “Idol.”
For the band’s latest collaboration, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin sang with BTS as they stood in front of a large, sky-blue circle that featured the words “Love” written across it.

And indeed, it went beyond that.
The track, featuring both the two bands harmonizing on lyrics in Korean, began with the lyrics: “It’s been six months since I kissed you.”
From there, all the ways fans have connected with the two groups became clear. The Epic Rap Battles of History YouTube series had already been laying the groundwork for some of the collaboration. EPOLO, a school on K-pop music, had already included BTS in an upcoming school program.
The collaboration created even more curiosity than usual for BTS, because Martin is known for his love of K-pop. The four-time Grammy winner had previously been linked to a man who sings and produces K-pop, Jimin, the lead singer of Girl’s Generation. In 2016, Jimin denied there was a romantic relationship, telling fans on Instagram he and Martin were “just friends.”
