Gunmen kill 12 people in Mexico bar attack

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Armed gunmen opened fire inside a crowded nightclub late Saturday, killing at least 12 people and injuring 48 others with several of the attackers leaving on motorbikes, authorities said.

More than 230 people were inside a nightclub on the city’s famous Zocalo square when a man dressed in a black T-shirt entered, police said. He demanded money, and shots were fired, authorities said.

One of the attackers, a man with a bandaged head, was later identified as a 22-year-old suspected of leaving the scene on a bike, police told The Associated Press. Authorities haven’t released his name, but the man, who didn’t say his name, has been in the criminal justice system.

Police didn’t comment on reports the attacker was armed or on what type of handgun he may have used. They said they were still investigating the case, which took place outside a restaurant named after the legendary Mexican wrestler, known as “Macho Leyenda,” or “The Legend of Legends.”

Police didn’t release any information on any possible motives for the attack. Authorities said the gunmen were all dressed in black when they entered the club.

Police also said a woman who was visiting an American boyfriend was killed during the attack.

Late Saturday, two bodies were removed from the scene and their identities were not immediately released, but the bodies were believed to be those of a father and son, police said.

Mexican media identified the woman as Joseline Gonzalez, and reported that she had visited the man.

A security camera captured footage of the incident, showing a man carrying a gun walking into a crowded square and going straight to the women’s club where a man was seated. He pulled out a.45 caliber handgun and opened fire, witnesses told police.

Witnesses said the gunman got off
