WASHINGTON – The suspect in the Capitol shooting that critically wounded Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was carrying a pair of zip ties and a black and white backpack that contained what police say were “toxic chemicals,” a report said.

Police found the suspect’s gun along with a box of zip ties Monday in the garage of the suspect’s home in Northern California, KTXL-TV reported.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was found with a box of zip ties, a pair of black and white zip ties, and a black and white backpack containing what police are calling “toxic chemicals,” the Sacramento Bee reported.

A gun in the suspect’s garage was found to have seven pellets, the report said.

Police say that in an interview with the suspect, the man said he planned to kill “no matter how many times” Democrats screamed “he’s gone,” the Sacramento Bee reported.

Rep. Maxine Waters, a California Democrat who was critically wounded in the attack, tweeted on Wednesday: “I know this man. He is not dangerous. He is a patriot.” Her tweet was retweeted by others, including Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Calif., and other prominent Democrats.

Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, also retweeted Waters tweet.

An unnamed woman who says she was in the house that morning told police that her husband’s gun was missing and she knew the suspected gunman, the Sacramento Bee reported.

A police source told the Bee the suspect is a “nice person.”
