Crestwood Police sent a synopsis to neighbors Monday:

The arrest of Brian Laundrie, 32, and his parents, Katharine Laundrie, 58, and Robert Laundrie, 64, of the 700 block of North Fullwood Street, was the culmination of an investigation by the Crestwood Police Department. The investigation has revealed that Brian Laundrie was friends with Abby Petito, a 13-year-old Crestwood resident, and initiated an inappropriate relationship with her. After the relationship was initiated, Laundrie took Ms. Petito to Cuba. Laundrie then arranged to meet Ms. Petito in Texas in July of 2015, where they ultimately traveled together to Mexico.

Ms. Petito went missing in June 2015, according to police records. But neighbors said they saw him and his parents there when her remains were found in the hills off 45-hundred block of Hallonza Drive, Los Angeles, in September 2015.

“They were together and they looked like they were walking to Mexico,” Adrienne Fish said, adding that she reported seeing the pair in June, after news reports of Ms. Petito’s disappearance.

“All I saw was Brian walking by and they had a yellow pillow in one hand and a canvas bag in the other and they looked like they were walking down the street,” Ms. Fish said. “And that’s all I saw them do.”

Laundrie was arrested with his mother and father in March and pleaded not guilty in April. The case is pending.
